Message Air flows faster through a smaller tube vs. a bigger one. Also air moves faster when it is hot. To the engine, 3" is so big it's like no exhaust at all. The exhaust gas comes out really hot and fast when it first exits and then cools and slows down the further down the pipe it goes. With 2.5", the exhaust gas stays hotter and travels faster along the whole journey. The x-pipe will help low rpm power because each side has alternating pulsations of pressure, stop and go, stop and go. So when one side stops, the other side is going, and it crosses the x pipe intersection and kind of vacuums out gas on the stopped side. At high rpm the pulsations are too fast that it doesnt matter anymore.

My personal belief is that with 3" you lose velocity and so you lose scavenging, but that is only beneficial to low end torque. But at high rpm and high boost, 3" might encourage it to rev happier, so slight, that you wouldn't notice. Our engine is fun from the torque around 3k - 5k rpm, after that it feels tired, because after that point its more hp and less torque.
